Shirley Baker

My lifelong passion for sport has seen me become a representative swimmer, involved in pool and surf lifesaving, personal training and involved in badminton, squash, sport fishing and netball. I have always placed a large amount of importance on people's involvement in various sports to add quality and value to their lives.

10 years in local government and a further 14 years at a senior management level in the engineering and other industries has given me the skills and understanding to help ensure the Bay has the best leisure facilities available for everyone in the Community.

Before moving to my role as CEO for TCAL, I was with Tauranga City Council from 1999 as Financial Controller.

Being actively involved in sport I appreciate the importance of physical activity for our community, both in terms of health and social wellbeing.

I am excited about being part of TCAL and in the relationships and partnerships we have and plan to have, that will deliver fantastic facilities and programmes to our community and visitors to our region.
