Track our History

TCAL (Tauranga City Aquatics Limited) was formed as a Tauranga City Council Controlled Organisation on 17 February 2005 and in July that year we acquired the existing network of Tauranga community pools (being Memorial Pool, Greerton Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Otumoetai Pool and the Mt Maunganui Hot Salt Water Pools).

Soon after, in December 2005, the Baywave TECT Aquatic & Leisure Centre was opened and we added this fifth facility to our network.

In May 2006, TCAL signed a five year management contract with LeisureCo (LC) to manage the network of facilities on our behalf. This contract was terminated by TCAL on 29 June 2009 and LC, and its Australian based parent company, were placed into liquidation soon after.

TCAL is now directly operating all faclities.
